A Fabulous Wheelchair Accessible Tour in the Galapagos!

Sole pushed me through Quito. It’s hilly and I couldn’t have walked it with my rollator. There were going to be another 2 people in the group so I had a guide to myself. Luckily, she is friendly and interesting as well as being extremely good at her job. In the afternoon she drove us to Huasquila Amazon Lodge.

I went on an Amazon trek on an off-road wheelchair pushed and pulled by Sole and Freddie. They took me along a route I would never have thought possible. We went from Tena (just inside the yellow fever area) with the company Torrent Duck in a rubber raft over (smallish) rapids. They organised things for me very well and I felt very safe.

We finished up at Misahualli for lunch including capuchin monkeys. Advice is to wear at least factor 25 sun cream. Ecuadorans laugh at factor 25, at least 50 is needed, in Ecuador you can get factor 90. Don’t forget your feet, I did and am still regretting it 2 weeks later. A long-sleeved t-shirt and neck cover are also a good idea.

We went to the Kalleri cocoa community. Really interesting look at chocolate making and lovely people. Left Huasquila, very sad to leave, beautiful place, incredible experiences. We went to see the hummingbirds, beautiful, but it was a bit too wet for them. We then went to the thermal spa, lovely and warm, fairly busy. We went to the middle of the world! Really interesting and relatively easy to walk round with my rollator.
